Description
The book challenges our perceptions of the region and brings to the foreground a local perspective in reporting. Through photo-essays produced exclusively for Stories of Change, and published here for the first time, we are offered an insider’s view into the lives of people in a region that has rarely has left news headlines, but which few of us know beyond the one-dimensional headline news images flashed on our screens. We are given a view through the eyes of local photojournalists, who have taken trouble to find the stories and tell them in the best way possible. Many are stories that might not otherwise have been photographed, and which bring an insight to the lives of the people and the issues they face that we might not otherwise have gained. The book examines what has changed, and what has stayed the same since 2010, how people look at the aftermath of Arab Spring, and what impact it has on their lives today.
Stories of Change also contains a visual chronology of the most memorable moments of the Arab Spring, compiled from reports in the international media of events as they unfolded. But the main focus of the book is on the stories told by talented local photographers, which bring into perspective – and add depth and nuance to – reporting about North Africa.
