A Walk in the Park?

“For me, the subject of the picture is always more important than the picture.” – Diane Arbus

Amy Horowitz’s superb street portraiture is all about connection. It’s about being seen, heard and understood, on both sides of the lens. For the past five years, Amy has made beautiful and intriguing portraits of young adults in Washington Square Park and the West Village in New York City, documenting young people on the cusp of adulthood in one of the most culturally diverse areas of the country.

Description

Amy is moved to witness young adults exploring their identities as they transition into adulthood during a tumultuous time in history. She looks for people with something visually interesting and an inner authenticity and vulnerability. Many are students pursuing creative careers in fashion, film, music, or art. They seem cool and moving forward in life. But softness underneath the shell and ever-present uncertainties are always lurking in these stunning portraits.

A Walk in the Park? is a vibrant, beautiful and important document about a highly interesting, tightrope-walking generation.
