Lucia Ganieva is Russian fashion designer turned photographer that has been based in the Netherlands since 1993. Her practice is centered on documenting contemporary life in rural Russia. Ganieva has an eye for capturing the beautiful in the everyday. In Dreaming Walls she documents the surprisingly vivid interior design choice in Russian homes; Ermitazhniki depicts the workers of the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg next to their favourite paintings, some of which they have apparently grown into; Somewhere at the Volga lays bare the faded glory of a textile factory while portraying the typically Russian workers in brightly patterned dresses. In all her work we can see the warm and hard-working Russian spirit, still alive in these post-Soviet times.
